The world has gone digital with the novel coronavirus living amongst us, altering our daily lives and making physical interaction harder than ever. In this pandemic, virtual events and celebrations emerged on social platforms and became top agenda for many people. But regardless how we have changed everything to adapt, humans are hardwired for social relationships. We engage in group activities, read and analyze the subtle non-verbal expressions of each other, and feed off the synergy we create collectively. Those are the experiences that a zoom hangout cannot simulate.

After months of diligent research and planning, last weekend, Fulmer & Company successfully hosted the first annual Weekend in Whistler, a corporate retreat created to stimulate team’s collaboration, recognize individuals’ opportunities and accomplishments, brainstorm solutions for current issues, forge new connections, and most importantly, celebrate the hard work each of the leaders of our 13 partner organizations has done.

The Retreat

The Weekend in Whistler took place on the beautiful unceded territory of the Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh) and Lil'wat (Líl̓wat) Nations. This personal growth focused retreat featured two guest speakers,

  • University of Winnipeg professor and the Truth and Reconciliation advocate Kevin Lamoureux, and
  • former Canadian Olympic triathlon champion Simon Whitfield,

a thrilling summer bobsleigh “Rolling Thunder” experience, an unforgettable performance by Canadian music artists Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida, as well as an advisory panel with four of renowned industry leaders and Canadian anchor Jody Vance as the panel moderator. All programs were designed to help individuals navigate uncertainty, overcome adversity, build strength and unlock potential.

The Feedback

“It was really an exceptional experience with great people”, said Special Advisor Matias Marquez, Founder and CEO of Buyatab.  Jessica Zhang, Special Projects Manager at Social Nature also added “what an incredibly inspiring weekend. I’ve been to several business leadership ‘camps” and ‘weeks’ before but none like this!”

Our Event Partner

We partnered with Vancouver’s finest event management company Pacific Destination Services (PDS) in the planning and execution of this retreat, ensuring all measures and protocols were in place to comply with necessary laws and regulations. For information about PDS, visit pacificdestinations.com

Closing

Proudly, we closed the weekend on a high note described by Joel Steinberg, VP of Finance at CareCru, “the speakers and panelists left indelible impressions. We return to work tomorrow armed with new knowledge, heightened awareness, new relationships, some great memories and a commitment to making Canada the country Kevin so passionately and articulately described.” Feeling refreshed and re-energized, together we shall finish 2020 strong!
